About Marshfield
The Town of Marshfield is located in Southeastern Massachusetts in Plymouth County. A coastal community 30 miles from Boston, Marshfield has a yearly population of about 25,000 people which grows to about 40,000 in the summer months. The town's rich history of over 350 years dates back to the pre-revolutionary war era and is best known as the home of Daniel Webster from 1832 until his death in 1852. While a resident he was a very important national political figure and was known as "the Farmer of Marshfield".
Marshfield is 31.70 square miles in area, and contains 28.50 square miles of land and 3.25 square miles of water. The town has a traditional New England government structure with a three-member board of Select Board, an administrator and an open town meeting. Among the basic services provided to residents are public safety, schools, water and sewer, trash removal, recreation, public library and senior center. The town's water and sewer and trash operations are managed through enterprise funds.
Marshfield is active throughout the year with events such as the Marshfield Fair, which attracts visitors from all over the State. The community takes pride in the education it offers its young people, in its sports programs and in its unique environmental beauty both on the coast and inland.
Why live in Marshfield?
Even if you live inland in Marshfield, you are never more than 15 or 20 minutes away from the coast. Many of the homes are historic, have acres of land, or have views of the water. Many even have all three. Not to mention your choice of beaches Rexhame, Brant Rock, Fieldston, and Green Harbor.
The No. 1 rated Trip Advisor thing to do in town is to go to the Daniel Webster Wildlife Sanctuary, which is a more than 500-acre area with trails, grasslands, woodlands, wetlands, and lots of wildlife. At the sanctuary, you can participate in a variety of classes, programs, and activities, or you can just take a stroll and enjoy the view.
In the summer months, the town is also known for the Marshfield Fair, where you can go on rides, listen to music, check out livestock competitions, and more.
Marshfield High School recently underwent a renovation in 2014, so the school now has a center courtyard, marine fabrication laboratory, a student-run restaurant, a fitness center, a robotics room, and a television studio.
The place shines during the summer, but it sparkles in the offseason, too, when wild turkeys dot the neighborhoods in the early morning and children play hockey on frozen cranberry bogs.
